Americans are looking forward to very full fall TV season, and they’re excited for both new shows and things that have been on for decades. But mostly the new stuff.

Media data company Diesel Labs has released a new analysis of TV trends from nearly 400 shows and non-theatrical movies premiering between Sept. 12 and Nov. 13, including series airing on broadcast TV, cable and streaming services.

It shows that streaming services have a lot more new content than returning shows while broadcast networks mostly focus on the hits. Cable lies somewhere in between. But most of the report is about what we want to watch.

Following are the most anticipated new and returning TV series for Fall 2022.

Audience anticipation level as of September: 100%

Platform: Broadcast TV (NBC)

Season: 48th

Premier: Oct. 1

The long-running comedy sketch and variety show is clearly still going strong as it approaches 50, thanks in part to its ever-evolving cast. While the show may not be new, this year much of the cast is.

Audience anticipation level as of September: 100%

Platform: Streaming (Disney+)

Season: First

Premier: Sept. 21

“Andor” is the more exciting of two new “Star Wars” shows Disney+ is premiering this season. It’s a prequel to the film “Rogue One,” which was itself a prequel to the original 1977 movie.

‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’

Audience anticipation level as of September: 91.1%

Platform: Streaming (Netflix)

Season: First

Premier: Sept. 13

“Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” is a Japanese-styled animated sci-fi series set in the world of the video game “Cyberpunk 2077.” Some early reviewers have said the show is worth watching even if you have no familiarity with the game.

There’s a sharp drop-off in excitement beyond those headliners, but Diesel Labs says at least 1 in 5 viewers are looking forward to this assortment of new and returning shows:

  • “Terim” (Netflix): 58.4% audience anticipation as of September
  • “Big Mouth” (Netflix): 38.3%
  • “The Handmaid’s Tale” (Hulu): 33.1%
  • “Tales of the Jedi” (Disney+): 31.8%
  • “Abbott Elementary” (ABC): 22.5%
  • “The Walking Dead” (AMC): 21.3%
  • “Heartbreak High” (Netflix): 21.2%
  • “Vampire Academy” (Peacock): 20.7%
